BERTOLOZZI AND THE BASS LYRE

Embarking on new paths. This bass lyre (or barbiton) is reconstructed from the instruments seen on ancient Greek pottery. Luthieros Music Instruments – Οργανοποιία “Αναστάσιος in Thessaloniki, Greece created this for me. I’ve never had an instrument fabricated especially for me so it’s extra special. Nikolaos Koumartzis and I toasted to our new association.
Surprisingly, there are several luthiers taking up this new direction. I researched them all, Οργανοποιείον Παλμός – Palmos ancient Instruments , Francesco Landucci , Carlos Paniagua Luthier , Nikolaos Brass Workshop, and expect to patronize them in time for the different approaches they bring to their instruments.
Why this? Isn’t the the organ, the gongs, the Eiffel Tower enough? Spreading yourself this thin how do you expect to master another genre? Well…I’m a composer first and foremost, interested in sound and will not deny the joy in expressing myself. I don’t expect to “master” this; you’d be floored at the skill shown by Giorgos Tabakis , Stefano Cavanna , Nikos Xanthoulis, Luis Paniagua, Lina Palera, and others. And composing for orchestra doesn’t necessitate mastery over all those instruments.
I want to enjoy music to its fullest while I enjoy my life to its fullest. CHEERS!
